Instead of using the bucket with the correct weight of sand on the pedestal (I went back to an earlier save and figured that's what you had to do), I used one of the drinks from the berries that makes you run like hell and used that to grab the unit and run out!
If you've found the puzzle where you take one of the round units for the generator off a pedestal and the door closes behind you until you put it back, I may have accidently solved this another way.
